Caring For Your Furniture

A small care pack is provided with each order upon despatch. This includes a small jar of wax, a piece of wire wool and a dust cloth.

Timber Furniture Care

  • Wipe over with a damp warm cloth followed by a dry soft cloth (do not use a greasy dish cloth).
  • To remove grease, add a few drops of detergent to a bowl of warm water then dampen a cloth with this solution and wipe over.  Always clean off with another clean cloth and wipe dry.
  • Things to avoid on wooden surfaces include: nail polish remover, synthetic glues, solvents etc, lemon juice, vinegar and gin.
  • The Dining Tables and coffee tables do have a 2 pot protective spray finish but we still advise to avoid direct heat contact from casseroles, tea pots and coffee mugs etc should be avoided. Hot items placed on anything containing moisture will steam the surface and can cause surface blemishes. Frozen items can cause a similar effect.  The best rule to follow is if it’s too hot too hold, it’s too hot for an unprotected wooden surface.
  • Pressure from ball point pens when writing can cause unwanted marks on tables so always put something underneath when writing.
  • Try to avoid dragging or sliding heavy cabinets across the floor. Lift if possible.
  • Avoid rocking back on chairs as this will weaken the chair joints.

Our furniture has an easy care finish that only requires dusting. From time to time your furniture will need re-waxing to enhance the colour and provide a protective finish. Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply a liberal amount of good wax polish (we use Liberon Fine Paste Wax) and rub vigorously into the timber. Using a second cloth, wipe away the excess wax and then using a third clean, lint free cloth, polish and buff the furniture.

Repair Instructions for Timber Furniture

In the event of a small scratch or mark appearing or build up of dirt or grime, apply a small amount of wax to the steel wool and rub gently but firmly (do not scrub), going with the grain of the timber. Using a clean cloth, wipe away excess wax and then using a third clean, lint free cloth, polish and buff.

Leather Care

We stock the Pelle Care range of Leathercare products.  To view more information on leather care visit the PelleCare website.

Although the wax finish gives a protective coating to the furniture, care should be taken to position furniture away from direct heat or sunlight.
