Upholstery

Your dining chairs can be upholstered in your own choice of fabric.  We use macrosuede as a standard  on our chairs. This is an extremely durable fabric and being a man made fabric, does not harbour dust mites, it is scrubbable and there are lots of colours available.

Good Design Lasts Forever ......
But only if it is produced from the right materials.

We take great pride in each piece of furniture we manufacture.  Our furniture is carefully handcrafted by Ken Wills Furnitures' skilled craftsmen using traditional methods, drawers that are dovetailed, joints that are dowelled and glued with the utmost attention to detail to ensure that it lasts for future generations.

The Timber

The furniture is made from recycled Rimu or Rimu flooring. Rimu is a unique NZ native timber, which is reknown for its durability, strength, colour and character. All of the timber used is salvaged from buildings around the South Island. We will also build from your own dried timber, also using Oak, Macrocarpa and Oregon.

The Finish

Finishing is a most important part of the process to enhance the unique design of each piece of furniture and to reveal the full character of the timber. Our furniture is stained for colour, sealed and top coated then a protective finish by hand waxing leaves a warm solid look for easy care, long lasting quality. All our tables, seachests and trays have a special spray applied for protection before waxing, making the surface moisture and heat resistant.

The Guarantee

We guarantee that if for any reason you are not completely happy with your new furniture, due to workmanship, we will repair or replace your furniture. Thats how proud we are of every piece of furniture we produce.

The Essence of Quality Furniture

The cabinet maker's craft is best expressed through the painstaking attention to detail necessary in the making of quality furniture.

The tell-tale signs of true craftsmanship may be found in the method be which pieces of fine timber are joined.

Dovetail Joint

The Dovetail joint is the strongest and the easiest joint to recognise in furniture because of its "dovetail" shape. Its main use is to join the front of the drawers to the drawer sides. An example can easily be seen by simply opening a drawer. Dovetails are an essential element in good furniture design.

Dowel Joint

The Dowel Joint serves the same purpose as the mortice and tenon - that is joining one piece of timber, usually at right angles to another. It is most commonly used to join door frames, timber panels in cabinet products, and in applications where a mortice and tenon is not practical or necessary.
